Before completing this challenge, I had never created or used an RSS feed. I didn't really know what they were, but I was certain that I didn't need one. Now that I've created my own RSS feed through Feedly, I can absolutely understand their merit! I simply created my Feedly account and the website walked me through creating my first feed and connecting to the content that I wanted to see. Simply by searching the keywords "educational technology", I added five related websites to start off (Educational Technology and Mobile Learning; Edutopia RSS; Emerging Education Technology; newsrss; and The Partnership for 21st Century Skills), but I hope to increase that number.
Over the past few days I checked my feed and got to see several new articles that were interesting to me (I've since clipped a few of them to Evernote!), such as articles with multiple links to resources for educators or that describe certain techniques for using technology to make the classroom exciting and conducive to learning. This helped me realize the value of RSS feeds for teachers and, consequently, their students.
RSS feeds make it easy for teachers to view updates and potentially relevant content without having to consistently check multiple websites. Some have the option to organize different interests into subcategories, which makes it even more simple to see all the new content for a specific category at once. When teachers have easier access to resources, they can more efficiently make use of those resources in order to enhance their students' learning experience. RSS feeds are an invaluable technological asset to a teacher, and incredibly easy to use.
