This lesson was another fun one! It was a welcome challenge to incorporate a learning game, especially one on the topic of financial literacy. I feel our lesson plan was valid, practical, and motivational because the game was relevant to the class, of course, but it was also engaging and fun for them. The lesson that we designed around the game, especially the discussion questions, also invited the students to think more critically about the game and its application in real life.
In order to improve this lesson plan, however, I would have taken more time to expand on the scenarios. I think that aspect of the lesson was great to give students practice balancing a budget, and I think it was helpful that they were vague so the students would have to do background research on their own, but I also think it would have been helpful to give students a little bit more basic information for each to make the assignment more straightforward.
Finally, the most important thing that I can take away from this case is the experience in designing a lesson around a game. I think we did well in putting the game first and then finishing the lesson with activities and discussions that expanded upon it, rather than giving students a lecture and ending with the game. It was good practice to learn how to create follow-up activities to a game that could nearly be a lesson of its own.
