Project 2: Web 2.0 Applications
The purpose of this project was to establish a better understanding for how to utilize and implement various Web 2.0 tools into learning experiences. In order to complete this project, I created 3 instructional activities, using a different Web 2.0 application for each one. View each activity by clicking the links below, and view my blog posts reflecting on this activity here and here.
Glogster
With Glogster, I made an interactive poster to create a book report conveying information about Kevin Henkes' book Chrysanthemum.
This instructional activity may be used for English-speaking preschool- or kindergarten-age students to help them identify the most important information from the book. STANDARD(S): CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.K.3 With prompting and support, identify characters, settings, and major events in a story. |
Jing
By using Jing I was able to take video of hunt-and-find and counting-based activity inspired by Kevin Henkes' book Owen. I drew up the activity quickly in Photoshop and then shot a video moving through the activity.
This activity is aimed at English-speaking kindergarten-age students in order to connect a new scenario to what they've read and to practice counting objects that may seem out of order. STANDARD(S): CCSS.Math.Content.K.CC.B.5 Count to answer "how many?" questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects. |
Prezi
I used Prezi to create a simple biographical presentation about Kevin Henkes himself. In the presentation, I touch briefly on his beginnings as a writer, his most famous books, and his current writing.
English-speaking elementary-age students may benefit from this simplistic presentation, which could be used as part of a larger lesson meant to help them connect the author's similar works together. STANDARD(S): CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.3.9 Compare and contrast the themes, settings, and plots of stories written by the same author about the same or similar characters (e.g., in books from a series) |
